If your team wins or dominates a division you will automatically be considered to up to the higher division for the next session. This means you may not sign up for the same division with out the approval of the Plex. This clause is at the discretion of the Plex management.

o       If your team can not move up because of the day the higher division plays on, you will need to address this issue with Plex management before you register with the league.

o       If a team is dominating or being dominated in a league the Plex will move teams in and out of a division with the consent of the team managers. However a team cannot be moved into a division to create uneven teams through that division. In order for a team to move in a division another team must move out. If this balance cannot occur then adjustments will be made during playoffs to make the championship run even.

If a team switches divisions with another team during league play their current record does not travel with them. This means each team will take on the exiting record of the team that moved out of the division.

There is a no tolerance policy for referee dispute. ONLY THE CAPTAIN of each team is allowed to questions calls or conduct for their team. The ref does not need to explain any calls to any player, captain or coach. All complains should be address to the night manager. A continuation of disturbance toward a ref will result in suspension. 1.      All team captains are responsible for all players’ action on their team on and off the court. b.      If a live ball is thrown out of bounds the ball may be returned into play to the team who is on the side the ball went out of bound.

 4) BOUNDARIES

a.       During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines.  Players may leave the boundaries through their side-line only to retrieve stray balls.  They must also return through the backcourt to re-enter the game.  Any player who steps out of bounds or who steps over the center line is automatically out.

 5)  THE OPENING RUSH

a.     Game begins by placing the dodgeballs along the centerline – 6 balls start out in the middle of the field. Players then take a position behind their end line. Following a signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. Teams may only retrieve one ball per player. Once a ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it can be legally thrown.

6)  TIMING AND WINNING A GAME

a.       One game is 25 minutes long

                                                               i.      One game is best out of 5 matches

ii.      A match is a 5 minute game, and is won when one team eliminates another by getting all of their players OUT.

b.      If the two teams remain when the time expires the winning team will be determined by who has more players.

c.       If there is a tie at the end of a match then it will go into a 1 minute sudden death overtime. The amount of players that was on the court at the end of regulation will start the overtime. You may play the over time with any player on you team that is not suspended. You do not have to use the same players that were on the court at the end of regulation in overtime.

d.      Forfeit: A team has 5:00 minutes to field a team before the game is an official forfeit. *Note - If a team shows up after the allotted time, the opposing team may agree to play the game as an official game at the start of play. Time will not start over.

7)  TIME-OUTS & SUBSTITUTIONS

a.       Each team will be allowed one (1) 30 second timeout per game. At this time a team may substitute players into the game.

8)  General VIOLATIONS

a.     In order to reduce stalling, a violation will be called if a team in the lead controls all six (6) balls on their side of the court for more than 5 seconds. This will result in a player be removed from the game.b.    You may not role the ball over the centerline. 1st infraction is a warning. 2nd results in a player being removed from the game.c.     All balls must be thrown over the centerline in the general direction of a player. You may not purposely throw the ball into the upper netting or towards the ground to make your throw uncatchable to your opponent. 1st infraction is a warning. 2nd results in a player being removed from the game.d.    Any players that are out may not taunt or fake throws from the sideline.

9)  RULES DEFLECTIONS

1.      If a ball bounces off a player on team A, and another player on team A catches the ball before it hits the ground or any other permanent structure (i.e. walls, basketball backboards, etc), the person who threw the ball is "OUT". The catch must be made within the bounds of the court. Any catches outside of the court boundaries are not legal catches. 2.      Deflections off the floor, walls, and officials are “ dead balls” and do not count.3.      Deflections off a teammate do count and both players that are hit are out4.      If a player on team A uses a ball that they're currently holding to deflect an oncoming ball, and successfully maintains control of the ball in their hands, the team A player is not "OUT". If the team A player drops the ball in their hands as a result of being hit by an oncoming ball, the team A player IS "OUT". 5.      As in Deflection Rule 4 above, if a successfully deflected ball is then caught by a member of team A within the boundaries of the court, the team B player who threw it is "OUT". 6.      If a ball strikes a team A player on any part of their body, and is then caught by another team A player within the boundaries of the court, the team B player who threw it is "OUT".7.      If a ball hits a ball that a player is holding and the ball is knocked out of the player’s hands, that player is out.8.      If a ball hits another ball, which a player has in their possession and that ball hits a teammate, the person who was hit is out.9.      A ball rebounding off a “ catch” attempt may be caught before touching the floor by any in bounds player on the “hit” player’s team. Result: the thrower is out.

GETTING YOUR TEAMMATES BACK IN
Every time a player is "OUT" on your team, they will go to the "OUT" box area behind the end line and stand in a line in the order they were knocked out. If you have more than 6 players your subs will also stand in this line and be first to come in.  If someone on your team catches a ball that was thrown from the opposite team, one member of your team (the first one in line, FIFO - First Out First In) comes back in. The player is not an active player until he/she touches the back line, or has a ball in his/her hand. When any of these events occur, the player is live and is able to get "OUT" again.  PLAYERS MUST COME BACK IN BASED ON THE ORDER THEY WENT OUT. Players must re-enter through the backcourt.  MEN CANNOT REPLACE A SPOT FOR A WOMAN (in coed leagues only).

11)  RULE ENFORCEMENT
A Referee will supervise all games. The Referee’s decision is final. No exceptions. Rules will be enforced primarily by the "honor system" with the help of “refs”. Refs will be expected to rule whether or not a hit was legal or whether they were legally eliminated.  Also players will be expected to be honest about weather or not a hit was legal.
